Everything to Know About the Apple iPad Air 2

By

People can now order the device expected to hit Apple Stores across the United States starting this week onwards. Macworld and TechRadar reveal its specs and release date in their report, while CNET reports that the iPad Air 2 is now available for pre-order online.

iPad Air 2 Features

Both Macworld and TechRadar note that the iPad Air 2 is the thinnest iPad Apple has produced so far. It is only 6.1mm thick, thinner than the previous models, which are at 7.5mm. According to Macworld, Apple removed internal plates and brought the remaining ones closer to achieve this record thickness.

The front, featuring a 9.7-inch, 1536x2048 ppi display, looks identical to the iPad Air 1. TechRadar notes that this is not a carbon copy of the first, though - it features a zero air gap screen, an anti-reflective coating that improves a user's view of images and reduces screen reflections by 56%. It comes in three colors - silver, space grey, and gold.

Under the hood, the iPad Air 2 features an A8X processor, which TechRadar notes was specifically made for the tablet. Apple claims it makes the iPad Air 2's CPU 40% faster. It also features an M8 motion co-processor, which is present in the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. They have also improved the graphic performance on the iPad Air 2, giving the device console-quality graphics.

Release Date Revealed, Pre-Order on Walmart

Both Macworld and TechRadar report that Apple has revealed that the iPad Air 2 is now available for pre-order. While they did not mention a specific date for release, Apple said they will release the iPad Air 2 by the "end of next week." The price, according to Apple, starts at $499 for the 16 GB, Wi-Fi only variant.

Meanwhile, CNET reports that Walmart has also made the tablet available for pre-order, reducing the price given by Apple. The iPad Air 2 can be pre-ordered on the Walmart website for $489.
