Kris, now professionally known as Wu Yifan, is celebrating his 24th birthday today. And as promised, he has dropped his self-composed new song, "There is a Place," on his special day, allkpop reports.
The song is reportedly going to be used in the OST of the former EXO member's movie, "Somewhere Only We Know." The song is a romantic ballad which was just recently recorded by Kris.
Despite leaving K-pop megagroup EXO in May and pursuing a solo career in China, Wu Yifan remained widely followed by his fans. His fans took to Twitter to celebrate the birthday of the Chinese-Canadian singer, according to allkpop.
The hashtag #HappyWuYiFanDay even became a trending topic worldwide shortly after midnight (Korean time) on November 6.
As a gift to his avid fans and supporters, Kris will hold a live streaming event where he will perform his new song. The live stream will start at 9 p.m. KST, according to Hollywood Take.
The singer has been embroiled in a controversy this year after filing a lawsuit to nullify his contract with SM Entertainment. KpopStars reported that the both parties tried to settle the issue with mediation, but apparently, there is no agreement reached between SM and the artist's party.
In his lawsuit, Kris accused SM of exploitation, claiming that despite his group's success, he struggled financially. "The company has treated me like a machine part or as an object of control rather than presenting a vision as an entertainer," said the idol in his lawsuit.
Wu Yifan's departure from the group has shocked fans and fellow EXO members, who were gearing up for their world tour. "Pulling this kind of action without consulting any of us as we await our world tour which is important to all of us is unacceptable and it is a bad act of betrayal," EXO-M member Tao said.
According to recent reports, Kris is having a hard time looking for an agency to sign with in China. He reportedly had talks with agencies such as Yuehua Entertainment and Hwai Brothers, but it seems neither company signed him up as a talent.
