Rumor: First "Star Wars" Spin-Off Officially Stars Boba Fett, Release Date in 2016

By

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is all anyone can talk about right now, but don't forget that there are other "Star Wars" fims dated just beyond the horizon. And while we know so precious little about "The Force Awakens" (current confirmed facts: will be titled "The Force Awakens," and will feature actors reading lines from a screenplay. Probably) we know even less about the future films, including the "Star Wars" spin-offs that are also in development.

KpopStarz is now claiming that the first spin-off film will officially be about Boba Fett, the fan-favorite character who, according to their reports, "is in need of [better] exposure."

This has long been the expected outcome- since February of last year (as reported by Entertainment Weekly), the first two spin-offs were rumored to focus on Boba Fett and a young Han Solo. These two characters are beloved by "Star Wars" fans and ripe for their own solo film- although it's not clear yet who would star in the third spin-off.

EW claims that the Boba Fett film will involve the dastardly bounty hunter in a web of other outer space villains, while Han Solo's film will be an origin story. Presumably, Harrison Ford will not be involved (as this is young Han Solo and Ford is in his 70s), but they may find a way to work him in. Maybe a flash-forward or something.

As well, Boba Fett Fan Club has another potential confirmation of the news, as Jon Schnepp (of the TV series "Metalocalypse") has seemingly confirmed the very same news.

"One of them is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan."

Sounds pretty official to us. The first "Star Wars" spin-off is dated for some point in 2016, a year after "The Force Awakens" hits theaters.

Check back soon for the latest "Star Wars" news.
