After its initial announcement during the Google I/O last June, Android's latest update since v4.4 KitKat - the Android L 5.0 Lollipop, also known as Android L or Lollipop, is now creating a ripple-effect of planning and releasing of updates in the smartphone industry. Now that the checkered flag has been waved, mainstream smartphone OEM's have been on the race to who gets to update their devices first.
LG, one of the two Korean smartphone manufacturing juggernauts, has led the race but some of the world's biggest OEM's are close on its tail; HTC, being one of them. After announcing that they will be releasing the updates within 90 days after they receive Google's codes, HTC has now 'hit' their deadline.
After almost two weeks since LG released Android's latest iteration of their OS, Android L 5.0 (or Android Lollipop), to their flagship, the LG G3; HTC will be starting their share of updating as well. Initially to be released last November 17 as per Slash gear; tech times reports that a tweet from HTC's Mo Versi has moved the schedule and has announced that the updates will roll out on Friday, Nov. 21.
The android updates will reportedly be released on HTC flagships - HTC One M8 and M7, Google Play edition - as these units run on stock version of Android, thus there is no need to test HTC's custom UI, Sense on it. HTC Sense runs on the standard version of the HTC One M8 and M7, as they are designed for added features and to make the Android experience more user friendly, Tech Times reports.
Although speculations, and alleged screenshots of a Lollipop-running Sense 7 UI has been made known to the public, tech times reports that the standard, sense-skinned HTC One M8 and M7 should be expecting its OTA update by December 2014, or January 2015 at the latest.
The HTC One M8 is HTC's latest flagship. It sports a 5-inch full HD screen and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC. The M7 sports a 4.7-inch screen and runs on a Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600 SoC, as per GSMArena.
