American choreographer Brian Puspos receives backlash after controversial tweet about YG’s iKON’s use of his dance routine

By

American choreographer Brian Puspos took to Twitter to make comments on YG Entertainment's upcoming hip-hop group iKON's use of his choreography. His Twitter post made headlines after K-pop fans around the world took it negatively.

The hip-hop group being talked about are iKON, a recently-formed group from a reality-based competition, and features YG Entertainment's line of trainees. The group, who's still set to debut are gaining a lot of attention due to the controversy, KpopStars reports.

Puspos's dance routine was used by the new group in the Novemver 8 airing of "MIX & MATCH." YG Entertainment gave full credit to Puspos for his choreography. However, it appeared that giving him credit for iKON's dance is not enough for the choreographer.

Using his Twitter account on November 17, Puspos jokingly told YG to "stop cutting corners." His tweet read, "My choreo being used once again by the iKON boys. Hey YG, hire the choreographer next time. Stop cutting corners." The tweet went with a smiley face emoticon as well as a link to a video of the group dancing to "Niliria," "All of me," and "Siri Says," on "MIX & MATCH."

A Twitter user who goes by the handle @DORKaTabii replied, saying "relax boy, they even credit you."

Puspos replied, "does that make it okay or something? Maybe that's why they lost too. Didn't it learn it right." He then deleted his original post and comments. Koreaboo noted that while the tweet was deleted, screenshots of it spread online, reaching K-pop fan communities across the globe.

Shortly after that, Puspos made another post to clarify things. He tweeted, "miss you guys. Y'all killed it! Proud. Ps. You have crazy fans that misread things."

According to allkpop, this tweet, was again deleted because he was apparently initially unaware that he tweeted to iKON's international fanbase, @iKON_Global.

Some netizens pointed out that the American choreographer might only meant it would have been better if the South Korean record label had hired him to teach his choreography straight to the boys, instead of just giving him the credits.

The show has previously used Puspos's choreography in an earlier episode and credited his routines. Puspos even went to share the clip in his Twitter account earlier this month connecting it to YG and iKON's official Twitter accounts. He wrote, "Pretty cool that my choreography was used for a K pop show. My boys killed it." he wrote sharing a YouTube clip and connecting to YG and iKON's official Twitter accounts.

Brian Puspos has worked with SM Entertainment in the past. He contributed to the choreography of SHINee's Japanese single "Downtown Baby" and just recently, in Zhoumi's "Rewind."
