Shortly after its release on November 21 (KST), GD x Taeyang's single, "Good Boy" immediately ranked number one in major music charts in South Korea.
Enews recently reported that the hip-hop track took the top spot in eight local music charts namely, Mnet, MelOn, Olleh, Bugs, Cyworld, Soribada, Naver and Daum. This was the result of the fans' response on the newly released collaboration of the two Big Bang members.
Aside from local music charts, the song is also increasingly becoming popular in other Asian countries. In the same report from Enews, it was written that "Good Boy" is currently number one on the iTunes charts of Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Big Bang Updates reported that song also ranked at no.25 on iTunes America's Hip-Hop/Rap chart.
Meanwhile, its music video, which was uploaded by YG Entertainment on Big Bang's official YouTube page, already has over one million views.
The MV was directed by award-winning music video director Collin Tilley, who has worked on the music videos of various artists such as Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, and Justin Timberlake. It has been produced in cooperation with YouTube, as part of the video-sharing site's "The 2nd YouTube Music Awards," which is set to launch in March 2015.
The track features rap music matched with Taeyang's powerful vocals and G-Dragon's unique rap style. According to a previous teaser image, GD was responsible for the lyrics and arrangement of "Good Boy." He also co-composed it with foreign artists Freedo and The Fliptones.
Aside from chart topping, the release of the track also became a hot topic online. Koreaboo reported that the hashtag #GOODBOY became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter just minutes after the release.
The collaboration is part of YG Entertainment's hip-hop projects, with the next one to be released in December 2. According to allkpop, the collaboration is also the first time G-Dragon and Taeyang are promoting as a sub-unit. Previously, GD was featured in Taeyang's "Ringa Linga."
