"Mortal Kombat X" Gameplay Gets a Massive Makeover- Will Use "Film-Based Cameras" and "Look Like a Movie"; Expect character depth and dynamic plot with improved graphics

"Mortal Kombat" is a pretty tried-and-true formula. Two grotesque-looking weirdos enter an arena, punch and hack at each other for a miniute or so, then one is disembowled in a totally ridiculous manner that probably breaks several laws of physics and basic biology.

Cool, right? Well, if that's what you're looking for in the latest "Mortal Kombat" entry, "Mortal Kombat X," prepare to be disappointed. Potentially.

According to Ecumenical News, the latest installment in the franchise may be shaking up the formula in a big way. According to them, the game is a "revamp" of the franchise, and will offer more of a dramatic storyline and a little more depth into characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Reptile, even if they're basically just the same character with different colored clothing (or were, at one point, anyway).

CBS News has more, speaking with Steve Beran, Director of Art for NetherRealm Studios, the company hard at work on "Mortal Kombat X."

""First and foremost, our characters are the stars. New-gen tech can do close to limitless polygons, and we want the player to be impressed with the characters. They're pretty big, and so we try to inject personalities from the intro scene down to the animation. When you start the fight, the characters engage in a dialog that's much more emotion based. Every character has custom lines for interacting with other characters, which pulls players in more of a cinematic experience as we get more involved/comfortable with using film-based cameras within the game. Tech lets us make the gameplay look like a movie, and there's no reason not to do that."

And while "Mortal Kombat X" may be cutting a few major characters, KpopStarz has a rundown on who'll be showing up this time. They're claiming that at least Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kano, Raiden, Liu Kang, Kenshi, and a host of new characters would all make an appearance.
