Last November, HTC promised users that One M7 and M8 users will have the Android 5.0 Lollipop update access within 90 days following receipt of the source code. It should be just a week or two before the actual update launches. According to AndroidPIT, HTC leakster and Android developer LLabToofer has revealed the release of the Android Lollipop update for HTC One M8 happening in a few weeks. According to LlabToofer's tweet: "Latest news from HTC kitchen. Final M8 Android L (WWE EU) build should be in range 4.16.401.x... ETA - 1-2 weeks..."
However, users may have to take this with a grain of salt or wait for the official rollout since HTC missed its January deadline earlier. HTC promised before that it will be rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the One M8 this January 3. The company missed the deadline though it is still well within the promised period of "90 days of the original source code being released."
Phone Arena supports this information saying that the HTC One M8 owners can expect the update around one to two weeks. There was also a video uploaded showing the HTC One M7 running on the newest Android build further strengthening speculations about the near release. For more added treat, people may also expect the Sense 6.0 to ship with the new build.
One of the most interesting features of the upcoming Lollipop upgrade is the multitasking screen. People can scroll through their "app cards" stacked over the other with more ease. It works in the same way with Chrome browser tabs. The two-finger swipe down function for Quick Settings has also been transformed.
Users may still need to verify with their carriers if schedules will follow the expected HTC release. Some network providers need to tweak the source code further to match their offerings and region. Similar to other updates, people may need to wait for the download and install prompt to upgrade their devices.
