According to Disney's blog, Elena is a 16 year-old princess who is "the bold, caring, funny and clever ascendant to the throne in the fairytale kingdom of Avalor. Voiced by Aimee Carrero (Young and Hungry), the young princess' struggles started when her kingdom was taken from her by the evil sorceress named Shuriki.

Elena tried to protect her sister Isabel and her grandparents and in the process, she got trapped in her amulet, wherein decades later, Sofia inherited her jewel and set her free. Now the princess is set to return to Avalor to reclaim her kingdom.

Nancy Kanter, the executive vice president and general manager of Disney Worldwide said, "What excites us most is the chance to use distinctive animation and visual design to tell wonderful stories influenced by culture and traditions that are familiar to the worldwide population of Hispanic and Latino families and reflect the interests and aspirations of all children as told through a classic fairy tale." KSL writes.

"Our creative team has delivered a universal story with themes that authentically reflect the hopes and dreams of our diverse audience." Kanter adds.
