Apple Update: New MacBook Air with 12-inch retina display gets February 24 release?

Apple fans may get a MacBook Air release during the later parts of Q1, sources claim.

French Apple publication iGen posted on Wednesday that the new MacBook Air with a possible Retina display may be unveiled on Tuesday, Feb. 24, together with the new Apple Watch (via AppleInsider.com). An earlier report said that the new MacBook Air has entered production early January with a possible late or mid-March release. This places a possible earlier launch during the late part of February or early March.

According to GottabeMobile.com, it is rumored that the new Air will replace the 11-inch MacBook Air with its 12-inch Retina display. Reports also claim that the product will have a smaller and reversible USB 3.0 port and a new USB Type-C connection that can accommodate various types of connectors, including the power cable.

Last month, rumors circulated that the new Air will feature Intel's new Broadwell line of processors which run on a very low 4.5 watts. This means that if the new generation MacBook Air does come with the new chips, users can expect a performance as well as a battery life boost. Moreover, the Core M processors might be the key to the new fanless MacBook Air design.

In addition to these changes, iDigitalTimes.com reports that the new MacBook Air will be scrapping the trademark glowing Apple logo on the back of the screen. Several leaked product shots of the Air were released before showing a polished Apple sign that doesn't glow.

As for other possible Apple products, the late February or early March event may also give fans more finalized information about the Apple Watch's hardware and software specs. Moreover, rumors also suggest that another product unveiling may occur during the same timeframe-that of the so-called "IPad Pro" which will supposedly feature a 12.2-inch display. Other sources say, however, that it is more likely for it to be launched during Q2 of 2015, specifically during Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2015.
