Apple iOS 9 Promises Bug Fixing and Performance Improvements, But Nothing New? New Version Only Offers 64-Bit Support?

By

Apple iOS 9 is reportedly under development, with improvements on performance as the focus instead of offering new features. Along with rumors of the new iOS being revealed at the WWDC this year, it is also expected to offer 64-bit variant only.

Apple iOS 9 is underway, and it is expected to be a big change from iOS 8. Citing 9to5Mac, Forbes mentions the company aiming to achieve faster and more stable iPhones through optimization, bug fixing and focusing on under-the-hood improvements.

The Apple iOS 9 is expected to be launched in WWDC 2015 this summer, says Mac World. The predicted release date takes into consideration Apple's pattern, which is apparently "as regular as clockwork." Should iOS 9 come out by then, it will be made available to developers and beta testers until a supposed release in September alongside the next batch of iPhones, iPhone 6c, iPhone 6s, and/or iPhone 7.

The update will not be offering something new and instead improving performance is expected to garner mixed reactions from iPhone users, depending on the kind of iPhone they are using.

Users of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus "who have largely enjoyed a fast, seamless user experience," may wonder what the improvement is for. However, those using iPhone 5S and 5C may find the update "a welcome relief" as these models have Wi-Fi, calendar, Bluetooth, and battery problems.

Additional rumor about iOS 9 involve its mobile OS being available in the 64-bit variant only, reports Computer World. The prediction stems from the fact that as of January 15, iOS apps for the App Store allegedly required 64-bit support using the iOS 8 SDK.

The article also adds, "Apple's next bit processor evolution is likely to see it deliver desktop class performance on mobile devices."

Apple iPhone 5S and iOS 7 had 64-bit supposed back in 2013, with other companies, including Android, still catching up.

While iOS 9 is rumored to take on a different approach to Apple's operating system updates, it will still be in line with previous iOS versions. Apple iOS 9 is touted to be on the same path as that of iOS 8.1.3, which makes updates more manageable and reduces "overall footprint."

Moreover, Apple is allegedly working on shrinking the amount required to install updates, says The Verge.
