"Iron Man 4" was not included in Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3 and it remains uncertain whether it will see a theatrical release anytime soon. Robert Downey Jr. reveals some details on what fans can expect in the future of Iron Man in Marvel Cinematic Universe and his participation with its future projects.
A lot of Marvel fans has been awaiting news for "Iron Man 4" and its theatrical release. When "Captain America: Civil War" was announced, a lot of fans thought that it will be the 4th Iron Man film in the franchise considering that Tony Stark will have a huge role in the upcoming film.
However, Robert Downey Jr. clarified that the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" is not "Iron Man 4". He explained that while the storyline of the Civil War movie will be based on the comic book Civil War arc, it does not follow that the billionaire-playboy is to be treated as the main villain. Downey also explained that even though he will have a huge role in the movie it does not mean that it is considered to be part of the Iron Man film franchise. The actor simply explained that "Ultimately, its Steve's story; it's not 'Iron Man 4: Civil War".
Previous interviews with Robert Downey Jr. would point out that Marvel hasn't made any plans for 'Iron Man 4' yet but the actor's commitment to the role remains vague. In one of Downey's interview last 2014,the actor revealed that Marvel doesn't have plans yet for Iron Man, explaining that "There isn't one in the pipe. No, there's no plan for a fourth 'Iron Man.'"
In his interview with "The Ellen Show", Downey revealed that "there's going to be a bunch more Marvel movies. [Marvel] have big ideas of how to do it best and we're in the middle of negotiation..."
However when David Letterman asked him if there's going to be an "Iron Man 4" the actor revealed that "No. But I'm gonna do other stuff with Marvel, still going to be involved with Marvel and there's going to be plenty stuff to happen."
As of now, Robert Downey Jr. is slated to appear as Iron Man in "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron", "Captain America 3: Civil War", and "Avengers 3". It remains uncertain on whether he will participate in the two-part "Avengers 3: Infinity Wars". Beyond the said films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are no definite plans yet for the future of Iron Man.
The future of "Iron Man 4" still remains uncertain as of this time. But that doesn't mean that Robert Downey Jr. will be retiring his Iron suit anytime soon. The billionaire-playboy still has a lot of films in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stay in tune for more updates!
