"Iron Man 4" is definitely still years away from pre-production but a lot of fans of the film franchise are curious if Robert Downey Jr. will still be a part of Marvel's fourth Iron Man installment. The actors speaks up in his latest interview and reveals the Marvel's plan in the Phase 3 of Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Robery Downey Jr. will be reprising his role as Tony Stark in the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" but he remains indifferent if he will be reprising his role in the future "Iron Man 4" movie. According to a recent report, Downey said that there are no plans yet for another "Iron Man" film but there will be undoubtedly a future film considering that the previous film grossed over $1.2 billion in the box office.
However, instead of revealing details on the development and pre-production of Iron Man 4, Marvel revealed its other projects such as Black Panther, Ant Man, Doctor Strange other Marvel films slated for Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3.
The good news is, Robert Downey Jr. will still be a part of Phase 3 as far as his contract goes since he is still slated to appear on two Avengers movies and it does not include Captain America 3: Civil War.
Speaking of upcoming films, Robert Downey Jr. revealed some details on Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3. According to him, he appreciates the direction on where Tony Stark is heading in the MCU. According to him, in his recent interview, "At this point it ceases about being about announcements of contracts and deal points and Forbes and all that. And to see Chadwick being announced for Black Panther, I go, 'Wow, man, Marvel is making all the right moves and they're not doing it because it's PC, they're doing it because it's exciting'. So why would I be the one to go, 'I'm not going on the road. I don't get along with the keyboardist'. Who cares? Who cares? And look, I also recognize that I'll be turning 50 by the time I promote this movie."
The actor even added that "The clock is ticking down on the amount of memories and participation that I would allow myself and not embarrass the medium with. And when they pitched it to me and when I had a couple of ideas and when they said we like those ideas, let's do those. Then there's all this competition too. I don't do this because I look at it as a competition, but I look at the marketplace and go, 'Maybe if these two franchises teamed up and I can take even a lesser position in support, with people I like and directors I respect, maybe we can keep things bumping along here a little longer than they might have'."
"Iron Man 4" may not yet be slated for production any time soon but this does not mean that fans of the film franchise won't see Iron Man in Marvel's future films. In fact, Iron Man will play an important role in the upcoming The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America 3: Civil War and quite possibly in the future "Avengers 3".
