A major update for PlayStation 4 (PS4) is set to hit the console come March this year.Rumors that surfaced beforehand about PS4 update to come out on March 29 has been affirmed by the PS4 blog manager Fred Dutton who revealed on the site that the "new firmware update is not far off."
An industry insider on Twitter with account name @Tidux also leaked the same information in the past that a one major release will happen soon. The tweet reads: "The new FW will be released on or around 29/3 #PS4."
The Twitter tipster also hints that bigger and more exciting features are coming up next for the said update. His next tweet read: "Big update, new features incoming, #PS4."
In a report, the PlayStation 4 still needs a lot of features in terms of its hardware abilities, suspend/resume function, and the ability to copy songs on the hard drive or to be able to organize folders. Before this announcement, other features were rumored has something to do with friend notification, and custom background settings.
Codenamed Masamune, the latest major PlayStation 4 system update was launched at the end of October. It introduced a number of features such as new theme colors, SharePlay, and background music.
What the next PS4 update will introduce remains unclear, though some fans believe the Suspend/Resume function--which allows players to quickly pause and resume games by powering the console off and on--is overdue. Video game geeks also noted their anticipation which PlayStation development team will be privileged to do the update overhaul.
Meanwhile, Sony has just released PlayStation 3 firmware update 4.7 for its preceding console and brought in minor changes, including a new logo for the PlayStation network that somehow gets the company's branding on top of the game console competition.
The changes include the following:
- Closed Captions is supported for the playback of Blu-Ray disc titles and DVDs.
- Style used for closed captions, such as the font, size and color, can now be adjusted.
- The name and icon of [PSNTM]werechanged to [PlayStationTM Network].
To display closed captions, go to Settings > Video Settings > Closed Captions. To adjust style for closed captions, go to Settings > Video Settings > Closed Caption Settings. To update PlayStation 3, go to Settings > System Update.
