Disney recently announced that it will revive the award-winning 1987 children's series "Ducktales". Following the original story of the rich Scrooge McDuck and his playful and daring grandnephews Huey, Louie and Dewey with Donald Duck.
The animated tv series will be launched in 2017 in Disney XD, Disney's channel arm dedicated for adventurous teenagers, targeting boys within 6-14 years of age. "DuckTales' has a special place in Disney's TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks' comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults." Says Marc Buhaj, the General Manager and Programming Manager of Disney XD.
Returning characters will be joining Scrooge's misadventures
The ducktales will also be welcoming back the other characters which were present in the original series. Launchpad McQuack, Webbigail Vanderquack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell & Poe, Ma Beagle, Duckworth, Burger Beagle, Bouncer Beagle, Mrs. Beakley and Gyro Gearloose are some of the few who will be back to star in new stories.
The original "Ducktales" ran from 1987 to 1990 in Disney's afternoon block and won an Emmy Award. With the three naughty children as the primary lead in the stories, the target audience will definitely relate and enjoy the reboot.
"Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation." Buhaj adds.
Children's animated films and series are always considered as timeless. This will explain the timelessness of Disney's other classic cartoons such as Mickey Mouse and the classic Mickey, Goofy and Donald trio.
What we'll need to look out for in the reboot is how they're going to catch up with the trend in animation and how they'll craft the story that'll suit this generation's preference.
