"Big Hero 6" is already a massive success, from its healthy win at the box office to its recent Best Animated Feature Oscar. But it's also a self-contained film, not taking place in any kind of expanded universe. Unless Disney wants to make a "Big Hero 6 2" (or maybe "Big Hero 7"), we've probably seen the last of Hiro, Baymax and the rest of the gang.
Or maybe not. "Big Hero 6," as you may know, was based on a Marvel comic (also called "Big Hero 6"). If Disney wants to keep expanding their successful franchise, one way to do it might be including the "Big Hero 6" characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Technically, it's already been done, the other way around. You may not have seen it, but Tony Stark/Iron Man had a brief cameo in "Big Hero 6." Or at least someone who looked very much like Tony Stark did. Seen briefly at the university lab (via Overmental, and seen in the image above), there's a character with Tony Stark's signature goatee a robotic arm helper like in the films, and a cat with jet boots- much like Iron Man wears himself.
It's just a cameo, but a cameo in response- say, popping "Big Hero 6" characters into a Marvel Cinematic Universe film for a second or two- would be the start of a real crossover.
MoviePilot believes that Tadashi, Hiro's brother who was killed in the first film, may in fact appear in the second, first as a villain but eventually becoming the Marvel hero Sunfire. Which would obviously make it much easier to include him in the Marvel universe proper. As well, Fashion & Style agrees, calling the theory "super interesting" and that Disney will definitely make a "Big Hero 7."
Obviously, there's the issue of putting animated characters in a live-action universe, but there's probably a way around that. Maybe make "Big Hero 6" a real movie (or a recurring TV show in the Marvel universe). Who knows?
