"Avengers: Age of Ultron" has just debuted its latest trailer, and that's cause for comic book celebration. There's plenty of new information and scenes shown in this latest trailer, like a better glimpse of the evil AI Ultron (played by James Spader) or the supernatural powers of Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). Plus, the first-ever glimpse of the Vision! As reported by IGN, this trailer was so craved by Marvel fans that they entered a social media campaign to get the trailer released a day early.
But as much as this "Age of Ultron" trailer has to do with the movie "Age of Ultron," it might have even more to do with another Marvel film- "Avengers: Infinity War." Or films, really, given that Marvel's split the next "Avengers" sequel into two parts.
Here's how. You might remember this new trailer's final shot, which shows the Vision, opening his eyes for what we can assume is the very first time. Notice anything in his face? ComicBook.com points out that the glowing yellow object in the Vision's forehead may actually be a Infinity Stone- specifically, the Soul Stone. Which would make sense, as Vision is a robot, but also has a heroic personality and fights for good- which would involve much more "soul" than being bent on worldwide destruction like Ultron is.
Now, in the comics, the Vision does have a yellow jewel in his head. But it's a solar gem, which is far less important. Still, it's possible "Age of Ultron" might change things up to throw another Infinity Stone into the mix.
This could have wide-ranging repercussions for the Marvel Universe if true, and could make Vision a crucial part of "Avengers: Infinity War." And considering that it's possible Marvel may start recasting certain roles after "Infinity War," there's all the more reason to make the film a Marvel event.
