Amanda Knox to face Italian Highest Court, Cassation Wednesday

By

Amanda Knox will be facing an all-too familiar battle with the courts as she would she would await her uncertain fate at the hands of an Italian Court. Knox was convicted in 2009 for the slaying of her British roommate Meredith Kercher.

Knox and her then-boyfriend Italian Raffaele Sollecito have both undergone multiple trials since 2009. Since then, Knox has faced a rather tumutous future. The 27-year old has recently been engaged to musician Colin Sutherland.

"This really has hit me like a train," Knox said "I didn't expect this to happen."

The 27-year old's fate will be decided by Italy's Court of Cassation on Wednesday. It is possible that the decision will be made once and for all. The court would decide whether Knox's 2009 conviction would stand, or should she be granted an appeal. Should Knox be convicted, she is set to serve a 28½-year prison sentence.

When Knox was convicted in 2009, the decision was overturned on appeal in 2011. Her acquittal was then thrown out in 2013. Knox's original conviction was then upheld by the courts since last year.

On the other hand, Sollecito, who is an Italian citizen, had been stripped of all travel documents since 2014. Knox's ex is expected to make an appearance in court come Wednesday. Should he be convicted, he will most likely be arrested. Sollecito is set to serve a 25-year sentence.

Through it all, Knox maintains her innocence. The 27-year old is newly engaged and is currently writing theater reviews for the West Seattle Herald.

"I will never go willingly back to the place where I -- I'm going to fight this to the very end," she maintains.
