Although Sony has not officially released Android 5.1 Lollipop update to its Xperia Z2 handsets yet, a custom ROM has been made to take advantage of Google's latest maintenance release for Lollipop OS. While its official release is slated to come by April or early May this year, Android 5.1 can be downloaded using the ROM CyanogenMod 12.1.
However, according to its developer, senior XDA forum member infected_, the build is not as stable as the official update since it is still in progress. Rest assured, all the features of the Android 5.1 will be included in the ROM with intact stock user interface since the ROM is based on AOSP.
Once the official Android 5.1 update hits the device, users can flash Flashtool software to return to Sony's original stock firmware. Note that contract with Sony might be annulled when installing this self-help update.
