Microsoft Surface 3 is made available for pre-order starting this April and will be available on May 7 for Wi-Fi only variants and on June 26 for its 4G variants. In October, the Surface Pro 4 will be hitting the market too, with Windows 10 as its OS.
The Microsoft Surface 3 is also upgradable to Windows 10 once it arrives later this year. Both the Wi-Fi only models and its 4G siblings will run on Quad-core Intel Atom x7 processor, 64-bit Windows 8.1 which is a change from the Windows RT found in Surface RT and Surface 2.
The 10.8-inches Microsoft Surface 3 tablet is smaller but still closer to its predecessors' lengths. It's also taller with its 3:2 aspect ratio display. That and the three-point kickstand are two qualities of the Surface Pro 4 that Microsoft's newest tablet has inherited. However, it may be a little inferior in battery department due to its thinner and lighter weight.
Also, its retained 1,920 x 1,280 resolution could be a disappointment. But that can be forgivable if the combination of HD display and a low-powered processor can do what it promises to do. That is, to last longer than other Windows devices.
2015 seems to be a busy year for Microsoft as well as it is rumored to launch the Surface Pro 4 in October with Windows 10 as its OS. It is also said to have LTE support and an Intel Core M processors. It may also come in two variants: one 12-inch and one 14-inch model.
The standard price of the Microsoft Surface 3 Wi-Fi only model is $499, while the LTE version costs $599. The device will be available in 26 countries, including Australia, Austria, UK, US, Belgium, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Portugal, Singapore, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Thailand, Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, and the Netherlands.
How is it different from the Surface Pro 4? According to Forbes, Microsoft Surface 3 offers the functionality of the Surface Pro 4 at a cheaper price but the Pro version remains superior for its longer battery life and larger screen display.
