This week's episode of 'Arrow' Season 3 titled "Broken Arrow" both delighted, and somewhat disappointed the show's fans. Sure, it was already anticipated that Roy (played by Colton Haynes) would meet his end at the hands of one of the inmates as foreshadowed in the promo video, but a lot of fans were not that surprised to see Arsenal ride into the sunset at the end of the show, revealing that he had faked his death.
Why is all of that important? According to report published by MTV News, it was confirmed by executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti in an interview with Buzzfeed that actor Colton Haynes has decided to leave the show, and will only appear as Roy Harper for one more episode in this season, but still has an opportunity to appear in the next season. Basically, what they were saying was, that Roy's time in the beloved CW superhero show has run its course.
Now that team Arrow has lost one of its core characters, what happens to Oliver? Who is going to be his new sidekick? Several speculations point to Thea Queen finally embracing her destiny and becoming "Speedy" (which in the comics was the superhero name of Roy Harper before he became Arsenal), but Berlanti has kept silent and instead pointed to the finale revealing something about Ollie's new protege (as reported by ComingSoon.net):
"Watch the finale to find out.Fans will really wonder where you go from here... We have planned something cool and radical to open next season."
Speaking of Thea, the spoilers for the next episode of 'Arrow' indicate that Thea might die which would force Oliver would then travel to Nanda Parbat and seek help from Ra's Al Ghul. The promo video also gives viewers the first glimpse of the real power of the Lazarus Pit, and the cryptic warning given by Malcolm Merlyn to Ollie may be exactly what points Thea into the hero's path.
'Arrow' airs every Wednesday evening at The CW.
