'The Revenant' Updates: CinemaCon footage reveal shows hints of potential Oscar win?

By

The team-up between Academy Award-winning director Alejàndro Gonzàlez Iñarritu and multiple Oscar-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio for next year's 'The Revenant' is a dream that has come to life. Coming off a fresh win from this year's Academy Awards for his film 'Birdman,' Iñarritu has definitely made his mark as one of the best filmmakers of this generation, and with DiCaprio as the lead in his next film, this is surely going to be a recipe for another Oscar win.

So why is this significant? Everyone who has followed DiCaprio's acting career knows how deserving he is to grab an Academy Award, which has for so long eluded him. Could 'The Revenant' finally be the film that nabs Leo the Golden Statue that fans have been waiting for him to hold for a long time?

It is a definite possibility. According to a report from Variety, the first footage of the film, which was screened at the recent CinemaCon, was well-received by the auidiences. The footage featured a ragged-looking DiCaprio, which looks very much like his character - an abandoned individual, filled with anger and hatred towards those who betrayed him. The film is partially based on the life of frontiersman Hugh Glass, who was injured by a bear while hunting and was robbed by his companions. 'The Revenant' features DiCaprio's character setting out for revenge against his betrayers.

One of the most interesting things about the production of 'The Revenant' is that it is being shot in the wilderness, using only natural light, according to an article by The Boston Herald. This, plus the method of filming in harsh environment seems to be received warmly, as evidenced by the crowd's reaction to the footage released at CinemaCon.

'The Revenant' is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 25, 2015.
