League of Legends classic champions are ushered back to the drawing board for an update on their skins and gameplay. The latest update has been for rogue Mage Ryze, rolled out in League of Legends patch upgrade 5.8.
Bug fixes and balancing notes are staple patch updates but this week gives much focus on the classic champion. The League of Legends 5.8 patch highlights specific changes to the classic hero Ryze. While there have been slight updates to the graphics, there have been major changes in the hero's gameplay.
Ryze is now equipped with Arcane Mastery that developers are necessary for his "window of power", where he alternates between moments of relative weakness and power. His Overload is no longer a passive grant. Instead, it's a new skillshot with a longer range and manageable mana cost. Spell Flux is a new skill that damages and reduces the magic resist of the target then bounces off to up to 6 nearby enemies before returning to the original target. Ryze's Rune Prison and Desperate Power were also balanced.
Classic heroes don't have to have a complete overhaul when updating. Changes are necessary. Ashe is already in the works with improvements to passive ability and new skill. Work in progress includes basic Frost Shot which will slow down and damage her targets, Ranger's focus which makes rapid fire shooting, Volley which fires more arrows, Hawkshot which will have global range, and Enchanted Crystal Arrow which stuns the target and damages and stuns nearby allies.
Riot Games also released info that they will be working on other champions which are in need of a makeover. Kassadin and Poppy are already lined up for a fix. No word yet on when the new Ashe will be released. It may be in the next patch upgrade. No news yet also on which hero developers are likely to be fixing just yet.
With the recent 'League of Legends' Patch 5.8, can players expect that the classic characters will make drastic change to the current game meta? Will Ryze and Ashe be OP in the arena?
