The gaming publisher, Konami, drew some flak after it released its "Metal Gear Solid" The 1984 Collection, which was supposedly a clothing line. Apart from that, the petition or open letter addressed to Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro to reconsider the shelved "Silent Hills" project already got over 64,000 signatures; that would be around 10,000 signatures shy of the avid fans' target.
An image that was posted on "Metal Gear Solid's" Facebook page drew the attention of most of the game's fans as well as some flak after the image was discovered to be an advertisement for a supposed "Metal Gear Solid" The 1984 Collection clothing line. The caption of the image posted by Konami on social media read that
"step back into the 80′s with our new 'MGS' collection coming very soon! Stay tuned!"
Gamers assumed that advertisement would probably be part of Konami's clothing line, which was featured last year at TGS, based on a report from TechnoBuffalo. Apart from that, the new clothing line advertisement had a retro version look to it; it also came "complete with the awesome desert chrome and neon logo set against a twinkling grid."
On the other hand, some "Metal Gear Solid" fans lashed out on the advertisement, which was also posted on Konami's Twitter page. It would seem that Konami was too little too late to confirm that the advertisement was the latest line-up on their clothing line and not the new "Metal Gear Solid" game. The suspense created by the advertisement could have raised eyebrows of some gamers, especially at a time when Konami would start ironing out the wrinkles on their sleeves caused by the cancelled "Silent Hills" project.
Then again, Konami would push through with the clothing line as well as the upcoming "Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain," which was set for release on Sept. 1st for PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Based on reports from the gaming community, it would seem that the fans' anticipation for the upcoming "MGS" game, although coupled by the confusion created by the clothing line advertisement, was still very high. Also, players would still want to get their hands on the latest "MGS" game upon its release even with the friction between Konami and Kojima that sparked in the previous weeks, based on a report from GameRant.
With regard to the cancellation of the "Silent Hills" project due to an alleged management misunderstanding on the project between Konami and Kojima, many players were still hopeful that the upcoming game could still be reconsidered for release. The petition or open letter which was written by a German gaming fan addressed to Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro already drew over 64,000 signatures from fans, based on a report from T3.
Add to that, the number of signatures had already grown based on the tally and reports from the gaming community. The cancelled project left many gamers' hearts broken as this would be a horror survival game featuring the genius of both Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro. Apart from that, gamers were supposed to see "The Walking Dead" actor Norman Reedus play the main part on the game.
