After months of uncertainty about whether Castle will continue to see its eighth season, fans can now exhale with the news that Stana Katic is officially onboard for the latest installment.
ABC President Paul Lee was the one to announce the news of the re-signing himself, according to Christian Today. With Stana Katic set to reprise her role as Kate Beckett on the show, it appears Castle has cleared its last hurdle in terms of actually making its return.
Prior to Katic re-signing, fans of the show speculated that Castle may have met its abrupt end especially with all the internal changes that were being implemented. Since the last episode of season seven aired, the show now has two showrunners calling the shots in Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter, according to TV.com.
Despite the happy news concerning Katic, there is still a fair bit of uncertainty surrounding some of the cast members fans have come to love over the life of the show. Members of Castle's supporting cast are still awaiting resolutions to their own contract situations, but given the network's decision to re-up with Katic, it appears they are content to move forward with a new cast as long as the stars are in tow.
Season eight of Castle is expected to feature Katic's character, Beckett, in an even more prominent role as she is rumored to be offered a chance to run for the New York State Senate. Interestingly, even after an offseason of great uncertainty, it looks as though Castle may not be on its last legs just yet. According to Youth Health, the show's eighth season is not expected to be its last.
Apparently, aside from re-signing Katic, ABC President Paul Lee also took it upon himself to announce that he expects Castle to still have a lengthy run ahead of it, one spanning past this upcoming season.
