Warner Bros. adds more reason not to pre-order games? ‘Mortal Kombat X’ for Xbox 360 delay on Dec. 31

By

Several GameStop employees said that Warner Bros. "quietly" delayed the release of the "Mortal Kombat X," and that the publisher reportedly told customers on Friday that PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will be postponed from Summer to Fall.

Because of this, GameStop reportedly changed the listing on their website, modifying it subtly from June 2 to as far as December 31.

"Mortal Kombat X" was first rolled out for PS4, Xbox One, and PC last month, and this recent change of release would mark its second delay, frustrating anticipating gamers. Warner Bros. previously said that the Xbox 360 and PS3 ports would be out together with other gaming platforms on April, but the company allegedly decided to postpone it and release the last-gen versions to Summer. However, this is no longer bound to happen, with the status of the ports seen to be "murky." Further, it was said that it is even "more unclear when they'll be released," fuelling the basis in "not to pre-order games."

Kotaku saw many publishers and developers releasing games for the "more powerful platforms without feeling saddled by the restrictions of old hardware, but also feel like they need to sell last-gen ports in order to maximize sales." This led to questions such as, "How much longer will publishers do this? Will any of those ports be worth the resources? How much will inferior versions of a game ultimately hurt its resonance with fans?"

"Maybe they don't want to risk cannibalizing sales-or hurting their Metacritic score-with an inferior post," said Kotaku.

When the publication asked Warner Bros. representatives for comments, the company did not respond.

As far as character additions are concerned, "Mortal Kombat X" developers added Tanya in its gameplay.

Ed Boon confirmed it to Twitter as part of the "Mortal Kombat X" DLC character game play.

Gamers could also expect a Klassic Skins Pack that will bring new outfits for Kano, Liu Kang, and Sonya Blade influenced by the original "Mortal Kombat."

"Mortal Kombat X" is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
