Leaks show that Samsung is on the verge of releasing new Galaxy S6 variants: the 4.6-inch Galaxy S6 Mini and the 5.5-inch Galaxy S6 Plus. The S6 Plus is said to be released in the coming weeks. Further, both devices are expected to contend with Apple's 4-inch iPhone version and 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus.
YouTube user Marques Brownlee released a video of what is supposed to be a review of the HTC One M9 Plus. Along the clip, it briefly showed a sneak peek (around 3:44) of the alleged Galaxy S6 Plus, which he said that the photo came from one of his anonymous sources.
The specs of the 5.4-inch or 5.5-inch Galaxy S6 Plus is said to be similar to the current Galaxy S6 Edge, only that it is a "super size version" of Samsung's current flagship device. Phone Arena said that the S6 Plus will have a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 16 MP rear camera, 5 MP front camera, and a 32 GB of storage. It will also have a Super AMOLED dual-edge curved display. This is definitely going to rival the upcoming 5.5-inch Apple iPhone 6s Plus once the S6 Plus gets released in the coming weeks.
It should be noted that Samsung could possibly be not only planning to release a 5.5-inch version of their Galaxy S6 Edge, but also the Korean company might release a smaller variant of the Galaxy S6, the 4.6-inch Galaxy S6 Mini.
GSMArena spotted the device at GFX Benchmark database in which it bore the model version "SM-G9198." The GFX charts revealed that the alleged Galaxy S6 Mini has a 4.6-inch HD display, 1280 x 768 resolution, Snapdragon 808 (similar to the LG G4), six-core CPU (2x Cortex-A57 and 4x Cortex-A53), Adreno 418 GPU, and 2 GB of RAM. Further, it has 16 MP rear camera, and 5 MP front camera. This is also going to compete with the 4-inch iPhone device, which was "accidentally" posted by Apple.
Both the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini and Galaxy S6 Plus could possibly run the latest Android 5.1.1, which its features and improvements were just previewed by SamMobile. Some samples of what the 5.1.1 could bring into these devices are camera app upgrade, motion effect for wallpapers, additional option to disable the S Finder and Quick Connect buttons below the settings toggles, UI change of the Themes menu, and many more.
It seems that Samsung is upping its game to take down Apple. In the coming months, there is definitely going to be a head-to-head rivalry between the 4.6-inch Galaxy S6 Mini and the 4-inch iPhone version as well as the 5.5-inch Galaxy S6 Plus and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus.
Though these recent reports are very exciting, they are still rumors. The Korean company is yet to make official statements; hence, these should be taken with a grain of salt.
