Female Version Of '21 Jump Street' Movie Update: Script Will Be Penned By 'Bob's Burgers' Writers

By

The movie "21 Jump Street" has been a fan-favorite especially the on-screen duo performance of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. However, it has been confirmed earlier this year that a reboot of the film, which will be starring two female characters, has been given a go signal and the latest update regarding this is about the writers of the reboot's script.

According to a report by Bustle, the script for the female version of "21 Jump Street" will be penned by the sisters Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux, the geniuses behind the animated series "Bob's Burgers."

The spinoff will not be replacing Hill and Tatum for "23 Jump Street" but it will be an offshoot of the franchise. The "Bob's Burgers" writers have signed in for the spinoff and took the place of Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs, who were supposed to write the script for the reboot. However, Sony wanted to bank on female writers as there are a lot of upcoming movies starring female leads. It has been a new fad in the show business to make comic movies starring female leads and not be branded as "female versions" thus the spinoff of "21 Jump Street."

The Molyneux sisters have had great projects in the past such as "Hot Stuff" and "My Sister Is Marrying A Douchebag." They are represented by WME, Morris Yorn, and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment.

The "21 Jump Street" franchise has been going strong for Sony as the first two films already grossed more than $530 million. "23 Jump Street" is sure to happen and according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Rodney Rothman will be penning the script for the Hill-Tatum duo.

It still remains a mystery who the female duo will be for the reboot of "21 Jump Street" but word has it that it might be Ilana Glazer-Abbi Jacobson, Sandra Bullock-Melissa McCarthy from "The Heat," or Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza from "Pitch Perfect 2." Sony has stayed mum regarding the movie's details about the lead characters. Other names being thrown into the mix are Rebel Wilson and Emma Stone.

This is not the first time that Sony ventured into female-centric spinoffs as "Ghostbusters" will be having an all-female reboot starring Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy.
