"Empire" is one of the most successful series to hit the TV following its record-breaking views from its Season 1 finale. While the pressure to stay true to the show while living up to the expectations of fans is apparent in any successful series, showrunner Danny Strong admitted that he is not worried about such expectations.
"I don't feel an overwhelming sense of pressure because of the audience size. I think about it the same way I think about it when we had zero viewers, which is, 'What's the best story and how do we tell it,'" Strong told Buzzfeed.
Strong also hinted that there will be a storyline in "Empire" Season 2 that's bound to "enrage a big number of people," which he finds exciting and good.
Meanwhile, TV Line caught up with Ilene Chaiken and Strong during the Emmy FYC panel and the showrunners revealed that there will be an exciting time jump between Seasons one and two. While Chaiken and Strong did not reveal how big of a time jump would take place and how it would impact the storyline, the showrunners revealed that Lucious (Terrence Howard) will remain in prison in Season 2.
Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) will also find a new love interest in "Empire" Season 2 in the likes of "Magic Mike" star Adam Rodriguez. Strong also teased that the upcoming season will also be about "warring kingdoms," which leads many fans to wonder if Jamal (Jussie Smollett) will keep his spot as the head of the Lyon Empire.
"Empire" Season 2 premieres on Sept. 23 on Fox.
