Top Gun 2 is in the works, and Tom Cruise says he thinks filming for the sequel would be fun. Although his involvement has not been confirmed yet, he made a specific demand pertaining to how the filming would be done. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer also revealed that Maverick is set to prove that Pilots are not obsolete in the upcoming sequel.
After the success of the recent Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Tom Cruise seems to be setting his eyes on Top Gun 2. As reported by Franchise Herald, Skydance CEO David Ellison previously revealed that the sequel's screenplay is currently being worked on by Justin Marks, and that it would not be complete without Tom Cruise on board to reprise his role as Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.
As reported byEntertainment Weekly, Cruise' response about it also indicates that the film might actually come into fruition as he said that filming the movie would be fun but also mentioned that it would have to be filmed practically. "If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it'd be fun to do. I'd like to fly those jets again, but we've got to do all the jets practical - no CGI on the jets," he said,
According to Screen Rant, Cruise previously admitted that he had conversations with producer Jerry Bruckheimer about the sequel, however, he also shared that they had difficulty in developing the story. Eventhough he appears to be keen on boarding those fighter jets once again as Maverick, Cruise' involvement is yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, pertaining to the film's plot, Bruckheimer previously revealed that it will confer to the idea of whether or not pilots are obsolete, given the new drone technology. According to Bruckheimer, Cruise' Maverick will prove to them that they're not obsolete, and they are set to stay.
No director has been attached to helm the upcoming sequel yet. However, more details about Top Gun 2 are expected to be announced as production for sequel progresses.
