‘Green Lantern Corps’ Cast Updates: Tyrese Gibson finds competition in Lance Gross for title role; Chris Pine definitely not involved

'Green Lantern Corps' have actors Tyrese Gibson and Lance Gross competing for the lead role in the new DC reboot. Previously rumored star Chris Pine is confirmed uninvolved as he will be working on 'Wonder Woman' instead.

An article by Movie Pilot, rounded up several actors rumored to play the leader of the team of Green Lanterns for the upcoming reboot that serves to revive the DC franchise brought to the big screen last 2011. The list included returning star Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Chris Pine and Tyrese Gibson.

Out of the four hopefuls, Gibson stands to be in the lead for Green Lantern John Stewart, who is deemed the first superhero of color to appear in the popular DC comic books. The Grammy-nominated recording artist-turned-actor had been particularly vocal on social media with his desire to play the superhero created by Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams.

However, Movie Web reported of a new runner for the role as leader of the intergalactic police force. American actor and photographer Lance Gross recently uploaded a mysterious Instagram post of the Green Lantern logo captioned "In Brightest Day". It was later speculated that he had been tagged as another candidate for the coveted role in the DC extended universe.

The article stated that the planned 'Green Lantern Corps' was confirmed by Warner Bros. in the recently concluded San Diego Comic Con last July 11. It was further speculated that several Green Lantern favorites would make an appearance including John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Chris Pine, one of the heavy contenders rumored in previous reports, may be the least probable to land a spot in the new film.

According to Forbes, the actor already signed a deal with 'Wonder Woman' executives to play the titular character's primary love interest Steve Trevor. In the comic books, Steve was introduced as a former U.S. military intelligence officer and WWII pilot who found himself on the island of Wonder Woman's origins.

Paradise Island was where he and Wonder Woman first met and eventually fell in love. Pine had reportedly been cast to star alongside Gal Gadot for a live-action adaptation of the fictional Amazonian princess-turned-superheroine.

'Green Lantern Corps' will be a science-fiction adventure reboot set to be released on June 19, 2020. It will focus on a fictional peacekeeping entity tasked at protecting the universe from villainous intergalactic invaders. Each Green Lantern is bestowed a power ring that grants him superhuman abilities.
