Samsung is now pushing to mid-range smartphones the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update beginning in India and soon hitting the United States. Following the fuss over the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow, reports tell Samsung is taking moving in advance for Lollipop updates to Galaxy J7, Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J1 handsets.
Samsung India debuted last August 7 the 5.1.1 version of Android Lollipop to Galaxy J7 units with model code SM-J700F. The update brings a huge improvement on the device's battery performance. This was first seen on Samsung's new releases Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ which were already running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
Aside from Galaxy J7, its predecessor Galaxy J5 is also showing an impressive battery test results, especially when on standby mode which can last for one whole week. A test from Sam Mobile testifies that even without turning on the battery saver the device will only eat up 2-4 percent of the battery life when left alone overnight. In a span of 8 hours, only one percent of the battery life will be consumed by the phone.
For Galaxy J1, a custom ROM can be downloaded based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. This custom release brings features native to Android Lollipop plus fresh additions from the developer's desk. To install the ROM, make sure the device's storage is free of 866 MB. Also, charge it up to at least 80 percent to prevent interruption. Make sure also to back up necessary data since installation will wipe out stored files.
Before heading to the installation, make sure the device's model version is qualified for the upgrade since it might brick unknown devices. Here's a good way to go.
1. Download the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop ROM on Galaxy J1 and PC.
2. Place the downloaded files on device's SD card.
3. Install the ROM Manager on device.
4. Install ClockworkMod Recovery on device.
5. Connect device to PC using a USB cable.
6. Reboot device to recovery mode.
