Devil's Third has been getting its share of mixed reviews from game critics and the public alike, following its official Western release in UK and Australia last week. While the game has been entertaining enough, it hasn't been getting a very good mark with the public so far.
Game creator Tomonobu Itagaki has since responded to the negativity in an official Facebook post on August 31, expressing his gratitude to those that purchased the game. Itagaki states that constructive criticism for the game is "fair" and that he does in fact accept them, although he believes that those that evaluated the game were not given ample chance to assess it properly. He further emphasizes that the multiplayer game was created for playing in an environment with lots of people, as opposed to the reviewers that tested the game out in a "closed environment". Itagaki further conveys that gameplay can be more effectively evaluated in a larger setting and perhaps then playability can be maximized. Itagaki ends the statment in expressing that public feedback is given high value for a better future.
GameSpot's critical review of Devil's Third is evidently a thrust in the game's playability. Gameplay for Devil's Third is mostly compared to Itagaki's crically acclaimed Ninja Gaiden franchise. While 2004's Ninja Gaiden was effectively efficient and calculated, 2015's Devil's Third is a button-masher's dream. The shirtless Russian protagonist in Devil's Third main campaign is reviewed to be vulnerable due to the game's overall domain that lacks responsiveness resulting in frustrating control issues. The multiplayer mode does offer some fun, according to GameSpot, but gameplay responsiveness takes the edge out of the game's entertainment.
Devil's Third game developer Valhalla Game Studios is not to be deterred, however. Valhalla Game Studios official website gives a run-down of the game's developments so far. Game modes such as the Carnival drill mode, Badlands siege area, and Special Arms Helldiver are officially unclocked, with a special 5x experience points promo that cuts off at 2am for Carnival on September 8, and Badlands on September 15.
Devil's Third is set to release in North America for Wii U systems on December 11, 2015. The game is also set to be released in Q4 2015 as a free-to-play online game for PC systems.
