The "world's worst kept secret" according to Simon Cowell has been revealed after One Direction claimed that they are taking a hiatus for a year. It is said that the group is taking a rest and will come back with their solo projects. However, new reports say that there are no clear plans for the group.

A source told Daily Star that Cowell is just trying to show that the band is taking a break for a year to avoid the same mass hysteria that took place with Take That in 1996. Cowell was apparently considering the fans' safety as they will always be their priority. The band's mentor reportedly confirmed that he knew it will end up like this.

"It has been the worst-kept secret in music," Cowell explains, "We have known about this for about a year and didn't want it to be a massive shock. We have said to the boys take as long as you want and, within reason, do whatever you want."

There were also rumors saying that once the band members assumed their break early next year, there's no guarantee that they will be returning together. The group has apparently agreed that they do whatever they want for their solo career and if they decide to comeback, it will be all four or nothing after Zayn Malik's exit, Fashion N Style reports.

The X Factor judge claimed he believes Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson deserve a break. The group has been working very hard since they started in 2010. They are giving 100% in everything they do, International Business Times reports.

One Direction, an English-Irish boy pop band signed under Simon Cowell's Syco Records after they ended up third in The X Factor competition in 2010. They rose to fame with their hit songs, "What Makes You Beautiful", "Live While We're Young", "Story of My Life" and "Steal My Girl."
