Avril Lavigne's divorce announcement on Wednesday shocked a lot of the couple's fans. The same day, the Nickelback singer was spotted carrying a lot of boxes, including his guitars into his car's trunk before he left their $5.4 million property in Sherman Oaks, which he shared with the "Complicated" singer.
Kroeger, 40, was seen with a female assistant, who was helping the musician in moving out his personal belongings out of the house, according to MIRROR. On Wednesday, Lavigne made her biggest announcement about their divorce on Instagram.
"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," Avril wrote on Instagram on September 2. "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other."
The singer's divorce comes after speculations have been swirling around that they are heading for the same since last year. In fact, Daily Mail notes that the couple was spotted often without their wedding rings. Some sources say that it's been a year that the Nickelback frontman has been telling everyone in L.A. that they are divorcing.
Back in November, Kroeger explained to Entertainment Online why he's not wearing his wedding band sometimes. He claimed his wedding ring "go back on and then come off and then go back on." The pair fueled more divorce rumors when they were seen getting lie low in updating their social media pages for nearly a year. There has been no update from the two on their special moments, including Avril's birthday and their anniversary.
Back in April Chad slammed their split rumors after claiming that he feels so much relieved after Avril admitted in public that she's battling Lyme disease. Her long absence in the music industry was often associated that they're facing a rough patch on their marriage.
Avril and Chad met in 2012 while collaborating on a Lavigne album. After a whirlwind romance, they got engaged. The rocker and Sk8er Boi singer wed in the French Riviera in July 2013. They soon were plagued with divorce rumors less than a year after their marriage.
The two have not commented yet on the reasons what led to their split. This is now the second failed marriage for the "Sk8er Boi" singer, who was once married to rocker Deryck Whibley from 2006 to 2010. The Sum41 rocker just recently tied the knot with his fiancee, Ariana Cooper in August.
