'True Detective' Season 2 Update: Director Cary Fukunaga Denies Involvement in Season 2; Show to be Cancelled or Renewed?

By

HBO's "True Detective" is currently on hold as it faces different controversies. Cary Fukunaga, the show's season 1 director, says he's not liable for any tepid support for season 2. Then, movie critiques say that the studio should cancel the renewal of season 2 or the production of season 3.

During an interview with Variety, Cary Fukunaga denied his involvement in the second season. He also reiterated that his departure was always planned. About speaking with Nic Pizzolatto, the director stated that he hasn't spoken to him since the Golden Globes in January.

"I really wasn't involved," he said. "My involvement in the second season was as much or as little as they needed me. It turns out they didn't need me."

On the other hand, Den of Greek conducted an interview with Timothy Murphy who portrays gangster Osip in the series. When asked about his stand on his character role's last words about his father figure, "you were like a son", Murphy said that they are the ones responsible on how to interpret their roles in the film.

Murphy also revealed that his role was not briefly discussed to him when he first received the script until he met Pizzolatto on the first day. After the brief discussion, he was then left on his own."We weren't given much information about the characters. It was up to us to interpret the characters how we wanted to in any particular scene we were doing," he stated. "The scenes were given to us a few days beforehand. I didn't know the full story or the script. Very little was told to me about the character until I met Nic on the first day and we discussed the character very briefly."

However, Design&Trend offers reasons why HBO should cancel the extension for season 2. According to the outlet, the show's second run hasn't reached the hit series that HBO was probably expecting. Movie also critics the show as a low quality sequel.

Although some fans still believe that the show will soon shine a bit, the distaste really never left the bashers. After all, it mentioned that the quality of season 1 is impossible to maintain.

What do you think? Should HBO cancel the show or not?
