'Just Cause' Movie Will be Based on Game’s Third Installment; 'Hitman', 'Just Cause', 'Tomb Raider' To Be Featured in One Film?

A "Just Cause" movie will be happening soon. If not, "Just Cause" might join in with "Hitman" and other Square Enix titles in one universe. If it will be a movie on its own, the story will be inspired from "Just Cause 3" which will be released in December.

It was way back in 2009 when Adrian Askarieh, the "Hitman" director, bought the film rights to the "Just Cause" series, according to VG 24/7. And although the film received terrible reviews, Askarieh's film had earned $63.5 million since it came out on August 21 over its $35 million budget.

And if it continues well with "Hitman" in the box office, Askarieh will likely push through with the "Just Cause" movie. The events in "Just Cause 3" can be a good movie plot, he said.

"'Just Cause 3' has a terrific story. It has Rico going back to Medici, the place of his birth and then subsequent displacement, and the murder of his family. And he goes back there to do what he does best which is to discombobulate regimes," according to Askarieh's interview with IGN.

It seemed that the Hitman director is much more pleased with the "Just Cause 3" storyline than the two previous titles. He's also interested with Scorpion's character and how his story will develop in the movie.

He added that if it was entirely up to him he could put together "Just Cause", "Hitman", and "Lara Croft" in one universe, with "Deus Ex" in the future and "Thief" in the past. But he insisted being keener on bringing "Just Cause" to the "Hitman" universe. Despite this, the director is also not forgetting the option of only making "Just Cause" a movie on its own.

Askarieh currently owns the rights to "Hitman", "Deus Ex", "Just Cause", and "Thief", but not "Tomb Raider", as mentioned in a Gamespot report. He did not provide a date on when the filming can start and just said that if his movie "Hitman" "does well enough, shooting could start earlier."

This early though, the idea of Askarieh having these Square Enix titles share a universe or be in one film, is receiving some flak from the gaming community. The "Hitman" director had likewise received some bad press already with his recent film. But "Just Cause 3" is sure to come out on December 1 for Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
