The Purge 3 is revealed to be improved and more political, as teased by returning actor Frank Grillo. The action thriller horror pic also added new actors in its latest Purge anarchy installment.
According to Movie News Guide, the chaotic and frightening bloodshed that is the Purge is back for its 3rd film and this time, the movie will be more "politically focused". Grillo, who will reprise his role as Sergeant, also stated that the latest addition to the franchise is an improved one, much more than its 2 film prequels.
Grillo explained that his character will be more fleshed out from his origin to the repercussions of the Purge to him. As Sergeant, the character "involved in law enforcement at a high level", he will target the system. Grillo teased that he will meet someone "who's also politically charged" who will team up with him to bring down the Purge scheme.
The Deadline Hollywood also reported new additions to the cast of The Purge 3. This includes Betty Gabriel, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Secor, JJ Soria, Mykelti Williamson and Elizabeth Mitchell. Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have yet to reveal what roles they are playing.
According to the Providence Journal, the movie, which features the annual "12 hours of government-sanctioned anarchy" is set to film in Rhode Island for six or seven weeks. The Purge's brand of "government-sanctioned anarchy" meant that all kinds of crimes are legal, with no lawful repercussions.
The first of the franchise, The Purge, starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey and set in the year 2022, became a major success with $89 million at the global box office on a production budget of $3 million. The sequel, The Purge: Anarchy, had a budget of $9 million and went on to earn $110.6 million globally.
Writer-director James DeMonaco is back for the action thriller horror, and will be in charge of helming The Purge 3's new characters. The new cast is expected to add political mayhem and bloody chaos in Frank Grillo's world.
