As the reboot line keeps on going, another Sony franchise is looking forward to bring back the three renowned ladies known as "Charlie's Angels". Though information in regards with the reboot franchise is scant, the casting procedure was reportedly filling up the director's chair.
Sony has officially announced the reboot of the "Charlie's Angels" film. In regards with this, they are hiring the award-winning, three-in-one American actress, producer and director, Elizabeth Banks to direct the reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is in a formal discussion with her along with the three unnamed women to suffice the roles of the kick ass ladies.
In addition, The Wrap also reported that Banks together with her husband and producing partner, Max Handelman will be the film's producer. However, the reboot franchise's writer is still out in the market.
Originally, "Charlie's Angels" is a 1970s TV series starred by Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, and Kate Jackson as private spies employed by a mysterious Charlie Townsend. It was again adapted in 2000 featuring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu taking up the titled characters. In an article on Entertainment Weekly, the franchise grossed to a total of $264 million worldwide following a sequel "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" in 2003.
In 2011, an attempt to reboot a TV series for "Charlie's Angels" was cancelled after four episodes without any given reasons. The film was supposed to be starred by Minka Kelly, Annie Ilonzeh, and Rachael Taylor.
Elizabeth Banks, who was known for her artistic skills in comedies and drama as an actress, has also shown her abilities as a director under the success of her "Pitch Perfect" series project. Following the financial success of her film, filmmaking opportunities got even closer to her fame.
Banks is already appointed to helm YA fantasy Red Queen at Universal. With her filmmaking skills, "Charlie's Angels" Reboot will be another movie to be excited for.
