Fans are eagerly waiting for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 premiere to see how things will turn out for the show without its female lead of the past six seasons. Will the series survive the loss of its iconic character?
In "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 finale, fans said goodbye to Elena (Nina Dobrev) who was put to a very deep sleep by a spell that will likely last for the next 60 to 70 years. Elena's longtime boyfriend, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will understandably be devastated but according to EP Julie Plec, Bonnie (Kat Graham) will take the tragedy the hardest. A Latin Post article says she will struggle with guilt knowing that the spell was cast to allow Bonnie to live. For this, Damon will initially blame her for Elena's sacrifice.
Plec revealed to Entertainment Weekly what to expect of Bonnie in the new season. She said, "She has survivor's remorse. But she doesn't want to be punished for it, either, so she's trying to take a stand against anybody that would make her feel bad that she survived."
However, Damon and Bonnie will turn to each other to get through their common loss. Although they have been viewed as enemies in the past, they will get the opportunity to know each other better and become close. It will be exciting to see the two of them develop a strong friendship in the coming season.
Plec added "Bonnie has sort of taken it upon herself to be the uninvited chaperone, which is funny because she and Damon have so much unspoken between them - the guilt, the resentments, the gratitude, there's a list of things they're dealing with."
With Nina Dobrev gone, the other characters will be pushed to the forefront in Season 7. Aside from the deepening friendship between Damon and Bonnie, fans can expect the series to focus more on Stephan and Caroline's relationship.
Incidentally, there have been reports going around that this could be the last season for Ian Somerhalder although the actor has yet to confirm this.
She Knows reports that Season 7 will literary be an explosive one based on a new trailer released. It will also seem from watching it that Caroline, Stefan, Damon and everyone else has left Mystic Falls which was taken over by new vampire witches. Previously, the site has reported that the next season will be bulked up with three new female characters, two of whom will be the first same sex couple in the show's history.
Mystic Falls will certainly be different without Elena but it will certainly be a busy time for Damon and company. "The Vampire Diaries" will return on October 8 on HBO.
