Ronda Rousey on Floyd Mayweather's 'Final' Fight Low Sales: 'I'm not surprised'

By

Floyd Mayweather, 38, might be retired, but UFC champion "Rowdy" Ronda still is taking shots at the boxing's pound-for-pound king when his final fight flopped in sales. While the two superstar athletes can never fight each other, they have not stopped hitting each other in many ways.

According to early estimates, the retirement fight of Mayweather against Andre Berto drew around 400,000 and 550,000 buys on pay-per-view. Floyd's latest bout would be considered his weakest numbers in a period of nearly a decade.

"I'm not surprised," Rousey referring to the PPV numbers drawn from Mayweather vs. Berto bout said to TMZ. "A lot of people were pissed after that (Manny) Pacquiao fight" she added. The UFC women's bantamweight champion may have a point considering the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao match which drew an all-time high record of 4.4 million pay-per-view buys. While the quality of the "Fight of the Century" is debatable, some fans complained that $100 charge was too much for 12 rounds of a dull and boring fight.

Rowdy, who did not expect too much from Mayweather's final match, also said that the "fans aren't dumb." Although, Mayweather successfully outpointed Pacquiao for 12 rounds, the two fighters barely connected all throughout the fight, leaving disappointment to most viewers who waited for years just to see the match.

The drama started in July 2015 where Ronda beat Floyd for the Best Fighter Award during the 2015 ESPY Awards. During her speech in the event, she mentiond the boxer's controversial past including domestic abuse. Floyd had previously stated that he had no idea who Ronda Rousey was.

In response to this slam, Hollywood Life reported that the boxing champion proudly said that he never saw an MMA fighter make more than $300 million in 36 minutes, which he famously achieved in his fight against Pacquaio.

On another report from MMA Fighting, Ronda replied to this jab by saying she actually "did the math" and found out that she makes two to three times extra per second than he does.

While the two champions are from different sports, the comparisons never seem to die. Is this really about fight sales or something more personal? Have Ronda and Floyd taken this conflict too far?
