Robert De Niro stormed out during an interview for "The Intern" with the Radio Times. The journalist apparently asked the actor questions with a "negative inference."
The recent incident happened between the two-time Academy Award winner De Niro and Radio Times journalist Emma Brockes, as reported by Cinema Blend. The interview was to promote the actor's upcoming film "The Intern", a Nancy Meyers comedy where he co-starred with Anne Hathaway.
The 72-year-old actor objected to a line of questioning from Brockes. De Niro didn't like her idea that Tribeca, New York which is home to the film festival he co-founded had been swamped by bankers. Also, he was asked a question about how he avoids falling into "autopilot" mode on set.
The Guardian reported that the journalist asked, "What about the bankers," in which De Niro replied, "All the way through. Negative inference." She followed-up with a question about what the actor was referring to. De Niro responded, "The whole way through and I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it, darling." He then went out of the door to find someone to take him out of the room.
As for Brockes, The Independent reported that the journalist was only attempting to unveil the methods that De Niro used as an actor. She told the publication that she has "sympathy with De Niro because nobody wants to be there for these choreographed junket interviews," and that she was "expecting him to be a little quiet." However, Brockes confessed that the "combination of hostility and condescension irritated her", thus ended up losing her cool.
De Niro reportedly attended a press conference alongside Hathaway and director Meyers for the forthcoming film "The Intern." Hathaway expressed how honored she was to work with the star.
Whether "The Intern" will be positively or negatively affected by Robert De Niro storming out in an interview with a Radio Times journalist, people can only hope that the movie won't be as negative as the "negative inference" mentioned. The film hits Friday, September 23.
