It looks like Keanu Reeves is about to suit up once again as "John Wick 2" shoots this fall. The film's director is also reportedly revealed.
According to /Film, the sequel to 2014 sleeper success "John Wick" will start filming this fall and Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment will release the film in theaters. It seems that people will get to see the once-retired assassin on a mission.
The production budget of $20M for the first installment was relatively small and had grossed $80M at the box-office. Nonetheless, the studio is expected to spend a bit more this time around as it aims to build on the success of the original film.
"John Wick," starred Keanu Reeves and was directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski while Derek Kolstad wrote the screenplay. All of them are reportedly returning for the sequel.
However, as reported by Collider, while it holds true that all of them will be back, the configuration is somewhat different. The publication reported that Leitch apparently is helming an unrelated project on his own, thus it seems likely for Stahelski to direct "John Wick 2" alone. Nevertheless, David Leitch will consult and serve as an executive producer.
Comic Book quoted Jason Constantine, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions: "With such tremendous fan and critical support for 'John Wick,' we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell." Constantine added that they are "thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around."
While reports state that "John Wick" will shoot this fall and that Stahelski is revealed as the director, more details are still scarce as of this writing. In addition, the studio has yet to confirm a release date for the film, which will surely continue the adventures of former hitman John Wick.
