"Scandal" season 5 debuted last Thursday, forecasting a bigger threat for Olivia Pope and Fitzgerald Grant. Viewers have yet to find out how they will navigate the consequences of this unexpected turn in their relationship.
Shonda Rhimes' TGIT block has offically returned and fans couldn’t be happier. New bunch of episodes coming from "Grey’s Anatomy", "Scandal" and "How To Get Away With Murder" are yet to unfold in the coming weeks, a distinct reason why the hiatus break is always worth the wait. Although these top-tier dramas have already established their audience through time, "Scandal" still holds the stronger grip among Rhimes’ followers. And they weren’t wrong to fixate on the political drama, for the premiere blasted the White House and Olivia’s insanity by the end of the hour.
According to the postmortem review of The Wall Street Journal, the Sept. 24th season opener titled “Heavy is the Head” started with Olivia and Fitz just going at it like newlyweds inside the White House. A new case involving the Royal Family and an Evil Queen was “handled”; Mellie struggled to take on her new role as Senator without Fitz’ validation and after got served with divorce papers; and ultimately, someone leaked video footages of Liv and Fitz’ sexy times inside the White House –an arc that is solely indebted to ex-veep Sally Langston and her love of free journalism.
Creator Shonda Rhimes, who has penned the episode, is definitely not known to write low-key season premieres. Although some fans might have already predicted to see this twist arriving, the aftermath of this Olitz debacle can only get as big as it gets.
Next week, followers of the Kerry Washington-starred drama will find Olitz spending some time apart. According to the episode description released by ABC, “The Pope and Associates team dives into a new case that takes Olivia out of D.C. and away from the President”. Elsewhere, the POTUS will be in crisis-management mode as he tracks down the person who threw a monkey wrench on his blossoming relationship with DC’s master fixer. The episode is titled "Yes".
Series star Kerry Washington offered her thoughts about how she sees the conflict in Olivia’s POV. “I think it's more like in life, that when our relationship begins, that's the beginning, not the end,” the actress said in a report from E! Online. She also noted that Olitz shippers should consider this as a fresh start and not as a culmination of something else. "They get to discover what that means, what's it like with all that tension of not being able to be together. What will it be like for them?"
ABC’s hot political series returned last Thursday, opening another who-did-what mystery behind Olivia and Fitz’ secret romance inside the White House. The next episode will find the fan favorite couple spending some time apart on the heels of the expose, while the President will stop at nothing to find out who the culprit is. Creator Shonda Rhimes has penned the table-turning episode titled “Heavy is the Head”.
