'Fantastic Four' writer-producer Simon Kinberg will push through with the planned sequel and hopes that the original members of the cast will return to work with him. Acclaimed comic book writer Mark Millar also shared his thoughts on the first film as well as other Marvel adaptations.
In an interview with MTV News, writer-producer Simon Kinberg expressed his disappointment that audiences didn't take kindly to his adaptation and that he could only hope for a different outcome for the sequel. He was well aware of the generally negative reception received by his reboot.
He announced that despite everything, he is still pushing forward and will take into consideration what he could do different the second time around. He said, "You're waking up every morning being like, I want to go make a great movie. It was an opportunity to do that. I do believe there is a great 'Fantastic Four' movie that we've made with that cast. So I'm gonna figure out what that is."
The screenwriter and producer is best known for his previous work on blockbuster films such as 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith', 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', 'Jumper', and 'Elysium'. He is also involved in the much-awaited 'X-Men: Apocalypse'.
Kinberg defended his film during another interview with Entertainment Weekly saying that the 'Fantastic Four' comic books were rather hard to adapt. He said that keeping the movie grounded while figuring out the balance between its comedic, dramatic and fantastic elements was very tricky but he was happy with work done overall. He also admitted that he wants to continue working with the first film's cast and hopes to see them in the sequel.
Famous comic book writer and Fox film consultant Mark Millar also expressed his views regarding the first 'Fantastic Four' reboot as well as well as other Marvel adaptations. During an interview with IGN, he said that it was a shame the first film didn't work out the way everyone expected since some of the elements in it were good.
Millar added that even though the first film in the reboot underperformed, it may be best that discussions for a sequel be kept in open consideration since Marvel is a powerful brand in itself. He also commented on other Marvel adaptations saying, "Marvel doesn't always work out great -- Thor 2 didn't work out especially well, Iron Man 2 didn't work. But then Iron Man 3 comes along and it's great... Avengers 2 is nowhere near as good as Avengers 1."
The 45-year old renowned writer is best known for several comic book series that have been adapted for the silver screen. This includes titles such as 'Kick-Ass', 'Wanted', 'The Secret Service', 'Civil War', and 'Ultimate Fantastic Four'.
'Fantastic Four 2' is a planned sequel to the 2015 superhero release. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 9, 2017. It is unclear whether the follow-up will feature original stars Kate Mara, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell.
