Reports have emerged that Ryan Gosling will play the lead role in the upcoming film "Blade Runner 2." On the other hand, Ridley Scott teased the possibility of more sequels once the said movie is done.
There were initial reports that Gosling might only play a minor role in the sci-fi sequel as a replicant. However, according to Inquisitr, Ridley Scott has revealed that the actor would instead take on the leading role, as Harrison Ford stepped aside for a minor part.
Gosling is believed to be introduced as a new character, while Ford might be reprising his role as Dick Hickard in the upcoming film. However, the latter won't be the primary protagonist anymore.
In an interview with Den of Geek, when asked if Ryan Gosling would be cast for the central role, Scott responded: "I spent the last two years writing what will be a sequel, and it's done." He went on to say that "Harrison is in, and the other person" of which he's not sure of. However, Scott mentioned about someone "who's very good, very interesting," and he believes that "Ryan Gosling is probably going to do it." Although the 77-year-old English film director and producer can't say much about the film, he confirmed that Harrison is in it, "in an important way."
Meanwhile, /Film reported that Scott insisted that the part of the story should be Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford's original character, owing to the fact that he's a replicant. The publication also mentioned about the general landscape of "Blade Runner 2," which is more oriented towards sequels. And when asked whether or not he would love to do multiple sequels, he said: "Everyone else is, so why not? I love to work."
The film is based on the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick, although the author never wrote a follow-up novel to his sci-fi classic.
Further details as well as the release date of "Blade Runner 2" are yet to be confirmed. And as for sequels, those are all but a pipe dream.
