'Captain Marvel' may not have its lead actress just yet but speculations have exploded all over the internet. Marvel President Kevin Feige announced that they will begin the search in 2016. It was also revealed that the studio is closely watching fan casting and audience favorites.
Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson and Charlize Theron had been some of the names repeatedly dropped for the lead role of Captain Marvel. According to Screen Crush, Blunt clarified that she was unaware of who the character was and was never contacted by the studio for the part. She said that the lack of choices for strong female protagonists in the industry may be one of the explanations for the alleged casting rumors.
Kevin Feige revealed that they have not attempted to search for the lead actress just yet. During an interview with MTV News, he said that they are currently working on the script and the development of the titular character and won't be casting anytime soon. He then went on to announce that they will start thinking of casting by 2016.
Producer Jeremy Latcham added, "We have amazing casting directors - Sarah Finn, who's been with us since 'Iron Man' - but at the same time, when a fan list comes out... We look at it! We read it, we go through it, we read the comments, we look at who people like... Sometimes it's really enlightening. Sometimes it's the exact same person that they've been saying over and over again that we don't think is right. It's always fun to kinda go through it and see what people are up to."
The female superhero is said to play an important part in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). According to ComingSoon, Feige teased that the character almost made a cameo in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' but they thought it would be better to leave her real cinematic debut for 2018.
'Captain Marvel' is an upcoming action-adventure fantasy film scheduled to be released on November 2, 2018. It is based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name and is adapted for the big-screen by writers Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman. It is the eighth film in line for MCU's Phase 3.
