'Bridget Jones's Diary 3' confirmed for 2016 release will feature Patrick Dempsey in an unknown role. He will star alongside returning original cast members Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth who play Bridget Jones and Mark Darcy respectively. The third installment in the romantic comedy series is revealed to be 'Bridget Jones's Baby'.

According to Vanity Fair, 'Gray's Anatomy's leading man Patrick Dempsey will be joining the third installment of the popular comedy film series starring alongside original cast members Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth. Dempsey took to his personal Instagram account to do the big announcement posting a photograph of himself captioned, "Nice to be working in England. Renee and Colin are an absolute joy to work with! A good couple of days rehearsing at Pinewood Studios. I really like it here!" His role remains unknown as of the moment.

Another article by Marie Claire suggested that Dempsey may be playing a potential love interest or rival. Zellweger will be reprising her role as the titular protagonist while Firth will return to portray Bridget's long-time boyfriend Mark Darcy. Dempsey's involvement came after news that Hugh Grant has dropped out and will not be returning to play Daniel Cleaver, Bridget's ex-lover.

It was also reported that Grant's departure was prompted by his dissatisfaction with the script. He said, "I decided not to do it... But I think they're going to go ahead and do it without Daniel. The book's excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different - well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago."

The film's events will reportedly take place before those of Helen Fielding's most recent book 'Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy'. Instead, it will be based on Fielding's columns from eight years ago. According to People Magazine, it was revealed that Bridget will find herself pregnant - thus the official working title 'Bridget Jones's Baby'.

'Bridget Jones's Diary 3', otherwise known as 'Bridget Jones's Baby', is the newest live-action adaptation of Helen Fielding's successful chick lit and comedy novels. It is directed by Sharon Maguire and scheduled for a cinematic debut on September 16, 2016. The first in the series was released in 2001 and gained generally positive reviews as well as multiple accolades and nominations.
