'Spectre' released its official theme song as 'Writing's On The Wall' by multi-award winning recording artist Sam Smith. The singer unveiled his work on October 5, 2015 and has since then reached the number one spot in U.K. music charts.
The much-awaited theme song for the 24th installment of the iconic James Bond series has finally been released and features exclusive footage from the upcoming film, according to Rolling Stone Magazine.
Recording artist Sam Smith unveiled the official music video for 'Writing's On The Wall' directed by Luke Monaghan on Monday October 5, 2015. The premiere was originally set for October 4 but the singer was forced to delay it for a day in time for the 53rd anniversary of 'Dr. No', first cinematic release in the series.
Smith co-wrote the official James Bond track with Jimmy Napes, who also worked with him on the award-winning ballad 'Stay With Me'. It was noted that the 23-year old became the second male vocalist in the history of 007 films to lend his work to a soundtrack in the franchise. The first was Tom Jones who contributed 'Thunderball' for a 1965 film.
The video posted by Hollywood Life showed Smith interposed with various footage from the upcoming film including fleeting glimpses of bond girls Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux. It also featured exotic settings shot in Rome, London, and Mexico City. The video itself was reportedly filmed in Rome.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith's new release for 'Spectre' managed to top U.K. music charts and immortalized him as the only singer who reached number one in the franchise's long history. 'Writing's On The Wall' earned sales for a whopping 70,000 copies and succeeded in beating close competitor Justin Beiber's 'What Do You Mean'. It was reported that although Adele's 'Skyfall' was awarded an Oscar as the first ever to win such, her track only managed to hit the number two spot in U.K. charts.
Despite his young age, Smith has already garnered multiple awards and nominations for his contributions in the industry. He singlehandedly snagged four Academy Awards in 2015 including Best New Artist.
Smith joins the music legends Shirley Bassey, Nancy Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Carly Simon and more modern talents such as Tina Turner, Madonna, Sheryl Crow and Adele in the roster of artists who lent their voices for a James Bond soundtrack.
'Spectre' is an upcoming action-adventure thriller scheduled to be released on November 6, 2015. It is directed by Oscar-winner Sam Mendes, who also directed 2012's 'Skyfall'.
It stars Daniel Craig as the iconic protagonist James Bond a.k.a. agent 007. Other cast members include Bellucci, Seydoux, Ben Wishaw, Naomie Harris, Dave Bautista, Ralph Fiennes, Andrew Scott and Rory Kinnear. Thomas Newman returns as the film's composer.
