'Avengers: Infinity War' is an upcoming superhero film that could signal new changes for the MCU. Marvel Studios' Jeremy Latcham reveals massive developments for the future of the franchise. It was implied that some of the original Avengers may be killed off.
According to Den of Geek, Marvel Studio's executive Jeremy Latcham revealed that the back-to-back installation may culminate in massive changes for Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU).
He said, "I think it definitely is an end to some version of the team that we've come to know as The Avengers. Who knows exactly what is going to happen yet in that film, but I think this version of that team - and I think we start to hint at it at the end of Age of Ultron -will be evolving."
Latcham's announcement is congruent with the constant changes happening in the comic books including character evolution and additions as well as the departure of old ones.
Latcham explained that although the MCU franchise will continue to hold strong, the end of Phase Three may also signal the end of some characters in the superhero team-up. He said, "I think that's part of what this culmination will be. We're seeing this version of the team doing this thing to save the galaxy, and then we'll see where that goes. It's not the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I think it is the end of part of it for sure. We're still trying to sort out which parts."
It remains unclear which superheroes Latcham may be referring to. According to an article by Heroic Hollywood, the future of the series could go in several directions. It reported that Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, who play Captain America and Thor respectively, wanted to branch out while Robert Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man, already has numerous contract extensions.
The two-part 'Avengers: Infinity War' will tackle the ever-growing threat of Thanos taking matters of universal domination into his own hands. The infinity stones will play much bigger parts in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the superhero team and these are thoroughly explained in a featurette posted by IGN. Latcham and Marvel president Kevin Feige also confirmed the existence of two different Infinity Gauntlets in the MCU - one locked up in Odin's vault and one with Thanos.
'Avengers: Infinity War' is a science-fiction fantasy film split into two separate parts. The first cinematic release is scheduled to hit theaters on May 4, 2018 while part two will debut a year later on May 3, 2019. The first in the back-to-back installation is directed by Joseph and Anthony Russo and is produced by Marvel president Kevin Feige.
